Who we are and our first dogs

We first decided to buy a Bull Terrier in 1996 after reading books and visiting our local club show Northern Provincial Bull Terrier Club.  In all the books we read we prefered the look of the Ghabar dogs and it was on seeing a picture of Ghabar Crusader which convinced me that I would like a Bull Terrier.

We followed the advice of experienced breeders, studied the pedigrees of various dogs and after viewing several litters we took home Cassie (Kilacabar Kast a Spell of Bullywood).  Cassie is directly descended from the Ghabar dogs on all sides of her pedigree and is a well constructed bitch with few faults and many virtues so we that knew if she didn't make it in the showring she would make an excellent foundation bitch.

We then bought a second bitch , Yendorian Uptown Girl of Bullywood, Sophie.  Sophie is descended from similar lines to Cassie on her mothers side but Aricon lines from her father.
Sophie enjoyed the showring much more than Cassie ever did and won several trophies for us and many rosettes to hang on our wall.

Several years later we are now showing Cassie's grandson Tigger a tiger brindle
(Blazing Storm at Bullywood
) and all our present dogs are descended from her.

Dogs from our breeding can often be seen in the UK showring today, we have so far bred champions in the UK, USA and in Europe and had our dogs invited to the Bull Terier Club Trophies (Regents, Ormandy and Sandawana).

Besides being members of The Bull Terrier Club, Northern Provincial Bull Terrier Club, The Coloured and Yorkshire BTC I have also been a committee member at Northern Provincial, I designed, published and became webmaster for their website and for three years was editor of their Bullgraph magazine .I am now again a Northern Provincial committee member along  with my husband.
I have taken and passed my Kennel Club judges exams and have judged Bull Terriers at several different open and breed shows. (B' list)

Although we would never claim to be experts in the breed (any advice is freely given and based on 10 years plus experience within the breed but over 40 years of combined dog ownership) we decided to produce this website to show our beloved dogs and we have included a few informational pages which, hopefully, answer a few of the questions we had when we got our first bullies.

Below is a description of our kennels and how we manage our dogs.

Above is a picture of our old kennels. New kennels are in the process of being built.

They measure 9 foot (approx. 3 metres) by 6 foot (2 metres) wide and are 4 foot (1 metre 33cm ) high.

The wooden dog cabins are placed at the back of the runs, inside is accessed by a lift up lid and consist of two compartments.  The door to the outside opens onto a feeding chamber, in here there is room for the dog to eat its food out of the rain, this compartment is smaller than the next sleeping chamber (accessed through the feeding chamber).
Inside the sleeping chamber we bed our dogs on shredded paper.
Feeding

All our dogs are fed on a high protein diet, consisting of tripe (cows) or Ox heart chopped and mixed with a low protein mixer which we purchase from our farmers centre.   We often boil up a large pan of vegatables (carrots, potato, swede etc) and mix this during the summer with nettles and dandelion leaves. These Free natural food supplys provide vitamins and minerals that can be lost in a modern day diet.
The amount of food varies from dog to dog .

Exercise

Our dogs are exercised daily, they are all walked a minimum of a couple of miles per day and  have supervised free range of the garden where they can run, play with their toys and each other. All our dogs have excellent temprements and we are able to allow them to play with each other and they rarely quarrel.
Exercise is important to build muscle and keeps the dogs healthy and fit.
